Dear Friends,
Recently, I heard the testimony of a couple who had returned to the US after serving as missionaries in an African country for 30 years. Although the indigenous people were steeped in ancestor worship and superstition, they faithfully lived among them – sharing the Gospel and enriching their lives in many ways, including teaching them marketable skills. Yet, at the end of their talk, they lamented, “We wish we had seen more fruit.” While that couple may never know of all the lives changed for eternity through their ministry, they can be assured that their labor was not in vain as they served where God planted them.
Hearing their story made me realize how blessed we are at Serving in Jesus’ Name to be ministering in Kenya. We not only have fertile fields, but we are doubly blessed by having abundant workers. For our upcoming Child Evangelism Fellowship training, we had to turn away teachers who are anxious to learn how to conduct Bible clubs for kids.

He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore, beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38 |
In August, our friend and ministry partner Mary Kithuure, CEF Kenyan Training Director, led the 3 events we sponsored at Lumino in Western Kenya. The first was an introduction seminar for 25 new teachers who will attend Evangelizing Children in November. The second was a refresher seminar for the 42 teachers previously trained. And the third was a refresher for our Christian Youth in Action kids, 18 of whom went to Nairobi last year for 11 days of training on leading 5-Day Clubs (Vacation Bible Schools). These were powerful times of fellowship while learning new lessons and techniques for ministry. In all, around 90 people participated.
We are blessed beyond measure with our incredible Kenyan Project Team. Victor Mulati serves alongside Immaculate and Walter in the team’s leadership, and he continually amazes us. He is a husband and father of 10, the contractor who manages all of our building projects, and a mentor to young men, whom he teaches the construction trade. He develops relationships with the staff at the schools and orphanages where we serve and leads the dedication to God for each building. He not only leads a Good News Club, but he, with Walter, oversees the dozens of clubs currently meeting weekly, He also leads a monthly prayer meeting with the teachers and is often a guest speaker at churches sharing the Gospel and distributing Bibles and Sunday School materials. He is indeed a true servant of the Lord and he plays a significant role in our ministry.

Immaculate shared Acts 1:8 with our team as a word of encouragement, “God put you in this ministry to reach His people both locally and internationally – to the far ends of the world. I have seen in our people that you have changed lives by giving opportunity to teachers and children, so they are able to learn about Jesus Christ. I have a picture in my mind that God is calling us as a ministry to bring many people to come closer to Him. One day, we will see a great revival.”
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
I extend Immaculate’s blessing to each of you for your continuing support and partnership as we share God’s love and Word together: “May God continue to give you long life, grace, and peace as you work for Him.”

Blessings,
Kathy Carlin, Director, Serving in Jesus Name
