Immaculate has a beautiful heart. First and foremost she loves Jesus, and second she loves extending His love to others. When she goes out in the streets in Kenyan cities, she doesn’t look at what the women are wearing. She doesn’t care about the latest styles. She looks at the needs of the people, and her heart often breaks. She carries things with her that a person in need would find useful, so she can bless those she meets along the way. She is our “man on the ground” for a large swath of Kenya. As our unpaid project manager, shipment delivery person, orphanage needs assessor, party organizer, Gospel sharer, and child-hugger, she works tirelessly for the ministry and the people of Kenya.
She was born and raised in Kenya in a devout Christian family. She earned a Bachelors’ Degree in Tourism Management and a diploma in Food and Beverage Management. She worked in the hospitality industry until the Lord called her into full-time ministry in April, 2017.
After her engagement to her college sweetheart, Kenneth (her husband as of December 2017), she came to know and dearly love his mother, Caroline Kindue via many, many What’s Up and Skype exchanges. Although Caroline introduced her to the Serving in Jesus’ Name ministry, selflessly serving others was already deeply embedded in Immaculate’s heart, into her very fiber. Her heart for giving begun as a child when she went to boarding school in the western region of Kenya, far from home. Some of the children at school lacked basic things like soap, toothpaste, even a pen. Following the encouragement of her teachers, she joyfully shared what she had with those less fortunate. Whenever she shared, her heart felt so good that giving became a part of her life.
Through her travels with her job in the tourist industry to various drought-prone areas in Kenya including Turkana, Moyale, Samburu, and Kilifi, Immaculate gained an appreciation of different cultures and the challenges the people in these regions face. While working for two years in the Lobolo tented camp resort on Lake Turkana, she was deeply touched by the local people’s struggle to survive. They are cattle farmers whose diet is primary milk and beef, but the region is very dry, so they often depend on relief food. When the relief shipments are delayed, they survive on a local fruit called Mukoma, which grows on palm trees. To add to their hardship, they lack access to basic facilities, often walking 40km to a dispensary, school, or hospital.
Immaculate always returned home on breaks from her job at the Lake Turkana resort with an empty suitcase. During her free time at the camp, she would engage the young local girls who came to fetch water, firewood, or reeds near the camp, and as she learned about their lives, her heart as well as clothes and shoes went out to them. After learning many girls married as young as 13 because their parents could not afford the $25 school fees or they were orphans, she would pray for God to send her supplies to reach out to the needy.
She is blessed by her beautiful mother, Roselyne, now widowed, who serves with Serving in Jesus’ Name in the Northwestern region of Kenya. Roselyne’s devout faith, love of God, and servant spirit helped Immaculate become the woman of God she is today. She is ever grateful to the Lord for her mum, Caroline, who not only introduced her to the Serving in Jesus’ Name ministry where Immaculate works collaboratively with the US team to extend God’s love to the people of Kenya, but who is her faithful prayer partner, wise mentor, and extraordinary example of a truly selfless person.
Sharing with, caring for, and visiting the less fortunate excites Immaculate. The smiles across the precious faces of the children when she visits an orphanage bring her pure delight and motivate her to press on in her Kingdom work. The joy and peace she feels as she serves in Jesus’ name are living proof of Christ’s words, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Acts 20:35: “In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
