The wisdom of this ancient proverb resounds through the centuries, and we at Serving in Jesus’ Name are eager to employ ways to “teach a man to fish” that he might have a means of support throughout his lifetime. We are seeking opportunities to equip the precious children in orphanages with skills and tools to give them an occupation once they leave the orphanage.
Through the amazing generosity of a couple in Richmond, we were able to send 12 sewing machines in our March 2018 shipment. This shipment included hundreds of yards of donated fabric, patterns, and other sewing supplies, and we continue to collect supplies with hopes of sending a steady stream of materials for the older children to turn into items they can use and sell even as they learn to sew.
We are looking for other ways to fund small enterprises, such as planting a vegetable garden, raising chickens, or creating crafts, ways by which we can provide a hand to lift those we serve out of poverty.
With each item sent, we are trusting the Lord to use it for His glory and to shower His grace on His beloved sons and daughters in Kenya. We are ever grateful for His blessings.
