Serving God’s children… April Ministry Update

Serving God’s children… April Ministry Update

Posted by Kathy Carlin

Dear Friends,

Praise the Lord for His work in the hearts of Kenyan children! Child Evangelism Fellowship started he first Good News Club in one of “our” facilities this month. Our goal is to have GNCs meeting regularly in many of these orphanages and schools – led by CEF staff members in the Nairobi area and volunteers in the remote regions. Immaculate just returned from Western Kenyan where only one orphanage has a Bible Club for the children. She recruited 15 volunteers to attend an informational CEF seminar. Our hope is that many of these men and women will commit to leading a GNC at their home bases after receiving CEF training on evangelizing and discipling children,

Finding a sign painter is always a challenge in Kenya, but we were able to get the latrines painted at two of the four schools where we completed projects this year. Two other latrine projects are in process, and Immaculate will be ordering materials in bulk to start four water projects. Pictured below in front of their new latrines are students from Saint Bibiana Primary School in Kakamega County and Soysambu Primary School in the Sango region.

Immaculate made visits in April to Dream Children’s Home and Hill Base Orphanage. As always, she took a van filled with lots of necessary and fun things for the children and their caretakers. She also took food in bulk, which is especially appreciated since feeding the children is such a challenge. Of course, the boys and girls were thrilled with all their gifts.

Who knew there were future Richmond Strikers players at Hill Base? Caitlin Terry can expect to receive lots of exuberant hugs in heaven from the boys who received soccer balls and other sporting equipment from her collection in NJ.

In the pictures below from Dreams Children’s Home, note that several of the boys are wearing tees in one picture, but are wearing heavy wool hats and jackets in another. When I asked about this, I learned that when these children receive something of their own, it is special to them; they proudly wear it even if impractical. After all, what is a hot head when you have your own wool hat? The children at Dreams Children’s Home got a special treasure, a bike, on which they were lining up to ride. Emmanuel, pictured on the bottom right building with blocks, lost his father when he was five. Since his mother was mentally unstable and unable to care for him, a social worker brought him to Dreams Children’s Home, where the kind-hearted Christian caretakers are nurturing him along with 140 other children of similar circumstances.

At home, we participated in the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Easter Story Walk. Linda and I manned one of the 15 stations. We had a wonderful time discussing the Good News of Easter with the children as they read the storyboard. We handed out over 300 Scripture card packets to the children and their parents, along with bags of candy.

As always, we are grateful that our work goes on, and we send our thanks to each of you who pray for our ministry, donate items, provide financial support, and give time to help with our work.  We are grateful for all those who enable us to continue sowing seeds of life in 2022  (1 Corinthians 3:6).

Blessings,
        Kathy Carlin, Executive Director
