The Lord has done great things for us, and we are rejoicing (Psalm 126:3)! The container has been safely delivered to its temporary location near Immaculate’s rented home, but the process was not without drama! After two months at sea, the ship entered the Mombasa port in Kenya in mid-August. However, our container was held up for 10 days, accruing hundreds of dollars of storage fees per day. Finally, with the help of a friend who works at the port, the container was found, the extra fees were waived, and the container was quickly released. We are greatly relieved and exhilarated as we plan for the distribution of its precious cargo.
We have exciting plans for the container itself, along with the one we sent last year. These are our gift to Immaculate and her husband, Kenny, who will turn them into their own home. It gives us great joy to be able to bless and thank them – not only for Immaculate’s faithful service as a fulltime volunteer with the ministry since 2016, but also for Kenny’s unfailing support of her work (Proverbs 3:27). The house will definitely be a work in progress as they transform the two large metal boxes into a pretty, cozy home! Our team in Kenya has been busy with the new latrines and the rainwater catchment projects co-sponsored by Hydromissions at the Nasianda, Eshikulu, and Mapera Schools. In the spirit of partnership with the orphanages and schools we provide support to, we require each facility to supply the sand, rock, and ballast for the latrine and water tank foundations. While this is a small fraction of the cost of a project, it gives the recipients of our support ownership and pride in what they have accomplished with our help. The financial situation in Kenya is so dire, however, especially in the rural areas, that we waived this requirement after these large schools could not raise the funds for even this small outlay. As the work nears completion, we look forward to celebrating God’s provisions, knowing that these structures, as with every good thing, are blessings from Him (Philippians 4:19-20). The Kenyan Team continues to add schools and orphanages to our network as they distribute items from the previous container and assess sites for building projects. Immaculate visited the Dreams Children’s Home outside Nairobi with a van full of clothes, shoes, and school supplies, etc. to distribute to the 140 children between the ages of 3-17 who live there. This facility has no major donors, so they are totally dependent on gifts like ours for their survival. We are thankful for the privilege of blessings these sweet children and their caretakers.
Other Activities in August at Serving in Jesus’ Name
We are actively looking for a venue to host our “annual” winter apparel giveaway event. Since Appalachia is currently hard hit with COVID, our dear friends, James and Jessica Koger, feel an event this year would be unwise.
We were able to provide boxes of Bibles for our friend Al Manning with Encouraging Encounters to hand out. Al loves to develop relationships as he shares the Word of God while providing material support to those the Lord puts into his path.
We are thankful for all the wonderful people who are sharing in this ministry of love with us, and we are grateful for each of you who support Serving in Jesus’ Name with your prayers, contributions, donated articles, and help sorting, packing, and transporting. God is faithful
Blessings, Kathy Carlin, Executive Director
