June 2025 Newsletter
Dear Friends,
“The best laid plans of mice and men”[1] comes to mind as we reflect on our plans to pack the container destined for Kenya in June. With record-breaking temperatures we couldn’t expect our 20+ volunteers to work for 4 hours packing in the blazing sun. We are grateful, however, that our friends at Century Distribution Systems were gracious about canceling the container’s delivery after arranging for the inspection, delivery, fumigation, and shipping. We are working on a new schedule.
We are always astounded and blessed by the opportunities the Lord gives us to accomplish so much for so little. Our investment of less than $5000 on a new latrine at St. Theresa’s forestalled the imminent government closure of this school with nearly 1300 students.
Our ministry’s work has become well known in Western Kenya, so our team receives many pleas from schools for new latrines, rainwater catchment systems, and Bibles. The goal of each project is not only to meet physical needs but to meet spiritual needs as well. Our dedications include a Gospel presentation and these projects open the doors for CEF Bible Clubs to be started in these facilities.

Filling a 40’ high top container is no easy endeavor, especially when 95% of its contents are donated. Without the many friends of the ministry, it would take us 10 years to collect enough articles to fill it.

Like boys all over the world, Kenyan boys love soccer. When Jen Emond saw boys at several schools kicking around floppy bread bags filled with dirt because they had no ball, she said to herself, “We can do better than this for these boys.” She returned from her trip touring our network in Western Kenya, put out a call to her church, and in June she delivered 500 new soccer balls to me.

Godwin High students, Avani and Bhoomika, collected hygiene products for impoverished Kenyan girls. These 17-year old young women are part of Osmosis STEM youth-led initiative. It is always a blessing to see young people who have a heart to serve others less fortunate than themselves.

As always, we extend our thanks to the many people who support us by donating articles, providing financial support, and helping with collecting and packing. We are grateful for each one of you. May the Lord bless you and keep you and cause His face to shine upon you. (Number 6:24-25)

Blessings,
Kathy Carlin, Director, Serving in Jesus Name
