Home to 41 orphans, Mwangaza Children’s Home shares a compound with the Mwangaza Gospel Planter’s Church in the coastal town of Kilifi, Kenya. Kilifi is in a poverty prone county stricken with HIV/AIDS, hunger, and illiteracy. The home was founded as a charitable organization in 2009 by Pastor John Kaingu Nyamawi and several other kind-hearted souls from the church who saw the need to provide a loving and caring environment for children in the community who were at high risk of social, physical, psychological, and emotional crises.
Meeting the ever-present needs of so many children without government funding is an every-day challenge to the faithful servants running Mwangaza Children’s Home. Even fresh water is an expensive commodity since the town’s taps are often dry, at times only providing water once per month, forcing the home to spend scarce resources to buy fresh water.
By the grace of God, partnering with our friend, Caitlin Terry, who serves with Hydromissions International as an engineer specializing in bringing “water for the thirsty in Jesus’ name,” we were able to provide two massive water tanks to meet this facility’s water needs when the town’s water supply is cut off. Serving in Jesus’ Name provided the funding with our Kenyan Project Manager, Immaculate Nekesa, overseeing the project. Caitlin provided the engineer experience and the design, and the Mwangaza staff hired the workmen. Together, we completed the project in July, 2018.
Ever grateful to the Lord and desiring to give Him glory, Serving in Jesus’ Name hosted a celebration with the caretakers and children at Mwangaza Children’s Home praising the Lord for His boundless provision. As we dedicated these water tanks, we acknowledged they symbolize the living water, which our Lord Jesus Christ gives to all those who come to Him, so they may never thirst again. Just as by God’s grace, these tanks will supply all the water needed when the town’s taps are dry, we know with Christ, our souls will never be dry as we daily go to the Fountain of Life that flows freely and abundantly.
Pastor John shared a message of thanksgiving, which is paraphrased below.
We are so grateful for what the Lord has done for us every day of our lives here at Mwangaza Children’s Home. As we look back where we have come from, we can only say that God and God alone brought us to this place of refuge and safety. We praise God for these water tanks, which are a blessing to us not only to provide needed water, but to always remind us of the Lord’s goodness. We pray God’s blessings on the Serving in Jesus’ Name Ministry. May these servants’ cups never run dry.
John 4:13-14 Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
