You may be asking, “Why goats?” A goat can provide so much for each family, starting with nutrition from their milk, which can be directly consumed or made into cheese and other dairy products. A goat can also produce income from successfully breeding and selling the offspring; a single goat can produce 2-3 kids (baby goats) per year. The families can also utilize the natural fertilizer that the goat produces for their gardens, which provide most of their food.
Serving in Jesus’ Name has partnered with Caitlin Terry, with Hydromissions, and Faith and Love in Action to offer the Gift-A-Goat program to directly support Haitian school children. Since 2014, SIJN has gifted more than 100 female goats for students in the remote region of Marbial, Haiti.
Giving a child a goat, training that child to care for the goat, breed it, and help his family by providing fresh milk and income from selling the offspring is a beautiful expression of God’s love and provision. Loving that child and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with him is the joy of those on the ground as well as those with the privilege to support this program.
