Most orphanages in Kenya receive no government support. Caring for children with no family to provide for them falls to those with hearts to love and protect the friendless. These dedicated caregivers often have little financially to give, but they somehow manage to feed, clothe, and put a roof over the heads of the children the Lord entrusts to their care. Many of the orphanages we serve are so impoverished they cannot afford electricity, yet the workers soldier on, fighting the good fight to lovingly provide for their charges in Jesus’ Name.
What strikes us when we see pictures and videos of the children is their cleanliness. While the buildings that house them may be ever so makeshift, often rusting, corrugated tin, the children are immaculate. This amazing evidence of the care these servants of the Lord provide to the children deeply touches us and inspires us to stand with them. Through our connections in Kenya, we are in close contact with the administrators of each orphanage, so we can understand the specific needs of the individual facilities and best match our resources to the needs.
While sending useful and fun items to the people in Kenya, especially to orphaned children, delights us, we are eager to provide ways to impact these precious souls not only for a day, a year, even a lifetime, but for eternity. Our passion is to share the Word of God with them and to express to them that they are deeply loved by God, beautiful in His sight, and treasured by Him. With each shipment of supplies and materials we send, we seek God’s guidance on how we can show His love in tangible ways. We depend on the Holy Spirit to show us how we can point those we serve to Christ by sowing seeds of salvation and spiritual growth, entrusting that our coworkers on the ground in the region will water and cultivate them, reaping a rich harvest for the Kingdom of God.
Our faithful friends in Kenya personally deliver to each facility the goods we send along with some locally purchased food and other necessities. They carry our message of God’s love to the children, not only through the Bibles and other spiritual materials we included in the shipment, but by hosting a party for the children and sharing the Good News with them, always pointing towards Jesus, always affirming the children as God’s sons and daughters, fearfully and wonderfully made in His image (Psalm 139:14).
