Dear Friends,
Immaculate’s visits to Divine Mercy Orphanage are always a cause of excitement and joy for the children. The children love the toys, art supplies, and clothes, and their caretakers greatly appreciate the highchair and baby seats she bought. With many infants and toddlers to care for, being able to safely constrain them is a true blessing. Little two-year Gregory, shown below, was thrown away as a newborn because he has only one leg. He was rescued and brought to Divine Mercy, where he has been lovingly cared for since then. The administration is now attempting to obtain an artificial leg for him.
The Lord led Joseph Muthondeki and his wife, Mary, to start the Bewomi Home after he read a biography of George Muller. He was an amazing man of faith from the 19th century who could have been a rich man, but chose to open an orphanage in London built and sustained by prayer. The Bewomi Home’s first residents were street children, rescued from desperate circumstances, later to be joined by other destitute children and young mothers from Nyeri County in Kenya. Since those first arrivals in 2000, more the 400 children and other disadvantaged persons have found refuge at Bewomi Home. Currently, Pastor Joseph and his wife are blessed with 50 children (https://servinginjesusname.org/2018/05/10/one-man-his-wife-and-50-children/). As she has since 2017, Immaculate visited the home, taking a van load of things to give out to the children and their caretakers.
We continue planning with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) to establish Good News Clubs in the orphanages and charity schools in our Kenyan network. CEF is a Bible-centered organization whose purpose is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to establish them in the Word of God and in a local church for Christian living (CEFonline.com). The latest container included 360 6-book sets of CEF Wonder Devotional Books, which will be given to the children in some of the clubs. We met via ZOOM with Immaculate and several CEF staff members in March to discuss how we can move forward with starting clubs. We are currently recruiting volunteers from the remote locations to go through the CEF training, so they can lead Bible clubs at their facilities.
On the home front, we were excited to be able to provide hundreds of Scripture card packets for Berea Baptist Church to hand out at its semi-annual children’s consignment sale. Our friend, Jessica Parker, handed out packets to shoppers at the Berea sale.
We also provided packets to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church for its Grief Share Group.
As always, we are grateful that our work goes on, and we send our thanks to each of you who pray for our ministry, donate items, provide financial support, and give time to help with our work. We are grateful for all those who enable us to continue sowing seeds of life in 2022 (1 Corinthians 3:6).
Blessings,
Kathy Carlin, Executive Director
