Dear Friends, Our mission at Serving in Jesus’ Name is to demonstrate the love of God and share the Good News of the Gospel by providing material resources and financial support to those in need. In every activity, we strive to point people to Christ through our words as well as our deeds. We want the love we extend to be what Augustine defined as “having the hands to help others, the feet to hasten to the poor and needy, the eyes to see misery and want, and the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men.” In April, we continued to pursue that mission. Immaculate visited several facilities in April, showing The Jesus Film, distributing articles from the container, and hosting a celebration of the Lord’s goodness and provision. Her visits are all about God’s love as she shares a message of hope in Christ, listens as children proudly recite Scripture verses she sent ahead of her visit, and watches little ones and youth rejoice in their new clothes, toys, and books. The Shalom children proudly recited John 3:16 for her in front of their new latrines. On Immaculate’s visit to Magodo in Nairobi, which is one of our original orphanages, she learned they are no longer able to provide food for the children, so they currently operate only as a school. Fortunately, kind-hearted villagers have taken in the children although their resources are scare. At the Arch Angels Children’s Home, the happiness on the faces of the girls holding their new stuffed animals gives us pure joy in knowing the Lord is touching these children’s hearts through His provision. |
We completed several water and latrine projects in April and are well on our way to building ten rainwater catchment systems and ten 5-stall latrines in 2022. See the pictures below of some of our April projects; the Scriptures shown are those painted on the tanks and latrine privacy wall.
Other Activities in April
- Our dear friend, Elena Calamaro, from Havertown, PA, has volunteered to assemble 5,000 packets of Scripture cards to distribute to the children on our visits to various facilities in Kenya. This is a 200+ hour job, so we are excited that Elena is willing to take on this monumental task. We pray the Lord will use His word in the hearts of the dear children who will receive the cards. The Scriptures in the collection are the favorite verses of our Board, Prayer Team, and volunteers.
- Chuck Ward, who recently retired as a full-time pastor at Grove Ave. Baptist Church in Richmond, generously donated almost 500 Scripture-based books and 50 DVDs to the ministry. Chuck, along with Kyle Soderberg, even helped pack and move the books. These materials will be used in dozens of schools and churches in Kenya to teach the Word of God.
Many thanks to each of you who prays for our ministry, donates items, provides financial support, and gives time to help with the work of the ministry. We are grateful for all those who enable us to continue sowing seeds of life in 2022 (1 Corinthians 3:6).
Blessings,
Kathy Carlin, Executive Director
