Dear Friends, “Blessed is the one who considers the poor!” (Psalm 41:1). Serving the children of Kenya is indeed a blessing! Having our friend from New Jersey, Caitlin Terry, tour many of the facilities where we minister was especially rewarding for us as she could affirm from an American’s viewpoint that the work we are doing is not only enriching the lives of those with great need, but also glorifying the Lord. Caitlin has traveled extensively in impoverished countries throughout the world for over a decade. She was deeply touched, however, by the sad conditions of the eight severely handicapped children Serving in Jesus’ Name has helped over the years – providing wheelchairs and other support. Each of these children lives in a home without a father present. Many have been physically abused, and some are cared for by a sibling or cousin while their mother or aged grandmother searches daily for work and food. |
With over 30 facilities and 10,000 children in SIJN network, we have been unable to do more for these precious children than visit once or twice year, taking items from the container, some food, and giving their caretakers a small amount of cash. Therefore, we were overjoyed when Caitlin was able to obtain funding from the Gloucester County Calvary Church in NJ to buy each child a therapeutic mattress. Prior to this amazing gift, the more fortunate ones had a thin foam pad for a bed, while others slept on sacks and blankets.
Caitlin’s trip was a huge blessing, not only to us, but also to the people of Kenyan. She touched the lives of the children and their caretakers at each of the facilities she visited with Immaculate. We are delighted that she was able to see the many projects her ministry, Hydromissions International, helped fund, and that Hydromissions will be partnering with us again in 2022 on our water and latrine projects. She has promised, Lord willing, to return to Kenya.
Other Activities in March
- Completed one rainwater catchment system, and have another water project underway, along with a latrine project. We will be accelerating our building projects in April with a goal of completing 20 projects this year.
- Received good news from our shipper – although shipping around the world is in chaos, they are confident they could get a container to Kenya with rates comparable to last year. Of course, they cannot promise that things will not further deteriorate by the time we ship later this year, but we are encouraged to know the prospects of successively shipping this year are good.
- Set a goal of sending 10,000 Bibles along with 5,000 Scripture card packets in the container this year.
Many thanks to each of you who prays for our ministry, donates items, provides financial support, and gives time to help with the work of the ministry. We are grateful for all those who enable us to continue sowing seeds of life in 2022 (1 Corinthians 3:6).
Blessings,
Kathy Carlin, Executive Director
