Running an orphanage and school for disabled children with no government funding in an impoverished area takes a heart of gold, a core of iron, and a mountain of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Such describes the administrators and caretakers of the Lumino Children’s Home in the Western Region of Kenya. These faithful servants house, feed, educate, and provide physical, spiritual, and emotional care for 60 children, many of whom are disabled. Feeding them can often seem an overwhelming challenge, but God is faithful as these dear souls soldier on in their service for the glory of God and the welfare of those entrusted to them.
Our team at Serving in Jesus’ Name is grateful for the privilege of making their burden a little lighter and their world a little brighter by providing fresh water; clean, safe, private latrines; clothes, shoes, and other necessary items as well, as a much-needed face-lift for their facility. Our hearts rejoice as we praise God for making these things possible since we know that every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift comes from above, coming down for the Father of lights (James 1:17). We pray for the tenderhearted caretakers and the beautiful, precious children.
Blessed be the hands that wash the child
That fate had left alone
Blessed be the arms embracing him
As tenderness is shown
Blessed to be those who toil and strive
To feed and clothe this child
Blessed be those who sacrifice
With a spirit meek and mild
And bless the sweet, sweet children
Who learn of the Father’s grace
Of love that meets their every need
And provides for them this place
To live and breathe and grow and thrive
Where Jesus comes to dine
With those who’ve opened hearts to Him
With those whom He calls “Mine”
