Sharing the love and Word of God is our passion at Serving in Jesus’ Name, so we are excited to further extend our reach in Kenya’s Kakamega Region by helping to provide greater dignity, safety, and comfort to the children in the remote villages. Therefore, as our second major project this year, we will be replacing the latrines and providing a source of water to the St. Paul Mbirira Primary School in Ndalu. Although this is a public school for 700 children, most of the classrooms are made of mud, the sinking latrines are dangerous, and it has no source of water on the school grounds. While we know the Lord, in His goodness, is the One enabling us to minister to the needs of these dear children (Psalm 68:10), those making these projects possible by sharing from the abundance He has given them can take great joy in the Lord’s promise, “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones, …that person will certainly not lose their reward.” (Matthew 10:42). Paul Mbirira Primary School Mud Classroom & Sinking LatrinesWe have collected 45,000 articles, including clothes, shoes, toys, books, sets of school supplies, and household items to send via container to Kenya. Lord willing, we will ship at the end of March when Immaculate, our volunteer Kenyan Project Manager, will be visiting us and can personally supervise packing the over 500 large boxes and miscellaneous items into it. Since we will be sending 3 times more than last year, we will be distributing to at least 4 additional large facilities (3.300 children), bringing the total facilities we support to 17 orphanages/schools, 2 rescue centers, and a senior men’s home in the 7 regions of Kenya in color on the map below. We are ever grateful for the opportunity to honor the Lord’s commission to carry the Good News far beyond our own borders. ( Mark 16:15) All 29 frames were “adopted” and the empty spaces were replaced with Scripture in beautiful settings. As I told sweet Juliette Jones (shown below with one of her paintings), “Your pictures could hang on the walls of dormitories, classrooms, or common rooms for a hundred years, and you will never know this side of heaven how many people’s lives were changed as they daily read the living, active Word of God displayed in them.” (Hebrews 4:12). Her sister Lydia painted the florals in the second row, and our friend, Anita, did the others. As always, we are grateful to all those who support us with prayers, financial contributions, donated articles, and help sorting, packing, and transporting boxes. “May the Lord grant each of you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:16-19) Blessings,Kathy Carlin, Executive Director |
Other Activities at Serving in Jesus’ Name in February:
- Ever a good steward of the ministry’s limited resources, Immaculate is continuing to research the options for the solar energy project at the Magodo Orphanage in Nairobi to ensure the system will serve the facility’s electricity needs for many years.
- Immaculate met with the Kenyan leadership of Child Evangelism Fellowship to develop a strategy for partnering with CEF to provide Bible teaching to the children in the orphanages.
Immaculate with Baby Diana, Joseph Kavuli, Leonard Mbai & Martha Olango
- We exceeded our goal of collecting 1300 devotionals and children’s Bible story books along with 1300 blank journals. When Immaculate makes the first delivery from the container to each of the facilities, she will personally put a journal and a devotional or Bible story book into the hands of every child and caretaker. Our prayer is for these precious people to grow in faith as they read the Bibles we previously sent, gain insight through the devotionals/Bible story books, and record their prayers, thoughts, and praises in the journals.
