April 2024
Dear Friends,
We have already given Bibles to all the children and staff at the orphanages and charity schools in our Kenyan network, so we only need a few to give to newcomers on our facility visits. Therefore, we are able to extend our outreach into broader areas of Kenya by handing out Bibles in churches and other fellowships. Since most church members in poorer regions cannot afford to own a Bible, they are always excited to get their own copy God’s Word.
In April, we sponsored a CEF Discipling Children training course for the teachers who were trained on Evangelizing Children in November 2023. All of these teachers have started Good News Clubs and are participating in the monthly prayer and fellowship sessions held at Lumino. We are overjoyed to observe how abundantly the Lord is blessing our work with CEF in the western region of Kenya.
The Bible clubs are flourishing and the teachers are blossoming! In our recent team meeting with the US and Kenyan Project Teams, Walter reported that the club at his school has outgrown the space where it is being held (70 children now attend). Millicent, a teacher who attended the training, has committed to joining CEF as a fulltime missionary, and several others are considering it.
Bread and cakes are luxuries in western Kenya since ovens are rare. A cake that we can make in the US for $2.50 costs $25 in Kenya. Immaculate wanted to pamper the teachers at the recent Discipling Children 9-day training course, but luxuries were outside the budget. Therefore, she rented an oven and was able to serve the dedicated volunteers who lead Good News Clubs rolls and cakes without going over budget.
Soccer balls, uniforms, and cleats brought joy to the members of the Tiger Football Club in Kongoni. They usually play their matches with borrowed balls wearing mismatched shirts and sneakers. Imagine their excitement in showing up against a rival team in beautiful uniforms and a bag of balls donated by Caitlin Terry. A few weeks before we ship every year, Caitlin arrives at my home with an SUV filled with sporting equipment and other items collected with the help of local coaches in NJ. Victor, one of our Kenyan team members helped present, not only the equipment and uniforms, but also the Word of God.
“I was privileged to share with them the word of God from Isaiah 40:30-31, encouraging them to fully rely on God, the only hope, in their youthful age. They said that they have never been visited by anyone before in the way we did, and they promised to embrace the word of God by diligently reading a verse a day from the Bibles they were given.” Victor Mulati, Serving in Jesus’ Name Kenyan Project Team |
Many, many thanks to each of you who make our work possible by your prayers, donating items, help, and financial support!! We are incredibly blessed to be able to serve the Lord through this ministry.
Blessings,
Kathy Carlin, Director Serving in Jesus Name
