March 2024
Dear Friends,
Sharing our ministry with the children at Hunter Classical Christian School in Richmond was a highlight for me in March. Nearly 150 children listened attentively as I told of our work with Kenyan orphans. There was a sea of hands from the children when asked if they had any questions. Proverbs 22:6 comes to mind as I consider the sacrifice of their parents and the dedication of their teachers to ensure these children not only receive an excellent academic education but are trained socially and spiritually as well – “Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
We had a busy month in Kenya in March. Activities included
- Unpacking and sorting the items in the container
- Building several latrines and rainwater catchment systems
Every Latrine and Water System We Build is Covered by the Word of God!
- Visiting several facilities to share the Gospel message and give the children Bibles, clothes, toys, and much more. The administrator at Patty’s Heart Orphanage expressed her gratitude that they are able to dress the children decently, which had been a serious problem.
- Preparing for the Child Evangelism Fellowship Disciplining Children course at Lumino Secondary School for Disabled Children. All twenty teachers trained in November on Evangelizing Children are now teaching CEF Good News Clubs and will be attending this additional training.
We were delighted to provide Scripture card packets to the children who attended the Easter Walk at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Over 500 people attended the event, which was a beautifully dramatized story of our Lord’s resurrection after being crucified as a sacrifice for our sins – the first Easter.
As an all-volunteer ministry, we are especially grateful to Immaculate Sifuna for her full-time unpaid service. We literally would not have a ministry in Kenya without her. Although we do not pay her a salary, we have been blessed to give her the empty containers, which she transformed into a home. She studied designs online, and instead of creating the typical narrow L-shaped house, she and her husband were able to build a 1600 ft2 rectangular home with the first two containers. They not only have a spacious home, but also a large storage space for ministry materials. Although we helped with the foundation and construction, painting the outside of the house was not in the budget. Immaculate is excited that, through the sale of the 3rd container, they have been able to seal and paint the entire house. Lord willing, container #4 will become a second story.
We are grateful to the Lord for enabling us to serve Him by sharing His Word and providing help to those in great need. Many thanks to all of you who make it possible for us to continue the ministry of Serving in Jesus’ Name by your prayers, financial support, donated items, and help with sorting and packing. Thank you!!!
Blessings,
Kathy Carlin, Director Serving in Jesus Name
