Dear Friends, As the economic situation in Kenya continues its downward spiral, we are saddened to hear of the financial ruin of millions of households and businesses in that country. Kenya is crippled with debt to the World Bank and work is scare. Many have faced foreclosures, bankruptcy, and repossession of property. While we cannot pay mortgages, provide jobs, or return lost property, we can share the Good News of a faithful God who, through His Son, Jesus Christ, offers joy, peace, and hope even during severe trials (Romans 15:13). One way we share the Good News is by painting Scriptures on the structures we build. Our prayer is that, as the children use the facilities, the divinely-inspired Word of God painted on their latrines and water tanks will be planted in their hearts, causing many to come into a new or deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. In August, we completed our thirteenth project and were finally able to get a sign painter to add the Scriptures to the latrine privacy walls and water tanks completed earlier this year. |
Immaculate visited the Makutano Primary School in Kakamega in August. This government school has over 1300 students. While the classrooms are seriously overcrowded and the facilities badly need renovation, the children found joy in receiving the Bibles, books, school supplies, and clothes Immaculate handed out.
Other Activities in August
- Ordered 10,000 Bibles to go in the October shipment. They will be dropped on pallets in front of our storage units, so we will need to recruit a crew to move them into one of the units.
- Collected 2 vanloads of surplus medical supplies from a local clinic. The donations include 3 portable EKG machines, along with bandages, braces, surgical gowns, and diabetic and catheter care items worth several thousand dollars. Immaculate will deliver them in Kenya to clinics and hospitals in desperate need of these items.
- Received a carload of sundresses delivered from New England by Jane Nicholson. The dresses, sown by volunteers with Dress a Girl International, were packed in vacuum bags and stuffed into the car so tightly, it is amazing Jane could drive! Through the graciousness of those who dedicate their time, talent, and resources making these items, we are peppering Kenya with these darling dresses.
- Ordered the 40’ tall container, which we plan to pack on 10/8. Men from three local churches, along with other friends of the ministry, have volunteered to pack. Please pray with us for a dry day!
As always, we are grateful that our work goes on, and we send our thanks to each of you who pray for our ministry, donate items, provide financial support, and give time to help with our work. We are grateful for all those who enable us to continue sowing seeds of life in 2022 (1 Corinthians 3:6).
Blessings,
Kathy Carlin, Executive Director
