Dear Friends, With almost 500 million people in Africa living in extreme poverty (i.e., on less than $2 per day), we could easily be overwhelmed with the needs of so many compared to the smallness of our efforts to touch the lives of those suffering in want of necessities. However, God did not appoint us to serve the masses, but to extend His love and share His Word with those He puts in our path with the resources He puts in our hands. Therefore, we strive to follow John Wesley’s advice to do all the good we can, in all the ways we can, as long as we can, and to trust the Lord to use our ministry to further His kingdom. Our May newsletter featured twin sisters at the Brigadier Musonye School in Western Kenya proudly wearing their new Dress-a-Girl dresses. Jackie Dewey, our DAG contact in Southern Maine, recognized the work of Wilma Wheeler, so she took Wilma the girls’ picture. Wilma, who has made over 2200 dresses for Dress-a-Girl, was delighted to see beautiful Elizabeth and Miriam wearing the dresses she had so lovingly sewed. |
We continue to provide support to the “extension” students of the Don Bosco Orphanage in
Kakamega, Kenya. In March, we purchased mattresses for these eight severely handicapped children,
who are visited weekly by a kind-hearted teacher at the school.
This month, we purchased two sheep for four of the children. These “pets” will not only be fluffy companions, but they will provide income as their offspring and wool are sold. A villager has committed to overseeing the care of these sheep to ensure they thrive, thereby, improving the economic status of the children’s households.
We visited several schools, distributing the last of the items in the July 2021 container, and we
completed a 5-stall latrine project at the Nasianda School.
Other Activities in June
- Elena Calamaro has completed assembling the 5,000 packets of Scripture cards destined to go in our next shipment to Kenya.
- Caitlin Terry has recruited several coaches in PA to gather soccer balls to send to the boys at the orphanages and schools in our Kenyan network. While all of the children are grateful for the clothes, shoes, school supplies, books, etc., we give them, Immaculate can see the boys feel left out as she distributes new dresses and stuffed animals to the girls. While stuffed animals are fine for little boys, teenage boys want sporting goods.
- Our friend Jackie Dewey in Maine is arranging for 2,000 Dress-a-Girl dresses to be delivered to us before our planned October shipment.
We are grateful that our work goes on, and we send our thanks to each of you who prays for our
ministry, donates items, provides financial support, and gives time to help with our work. We are grateful for all those who enable us to continue sowing seeds of life in 2022 (1 Corinthians 3:6).
Blessings,
Kathy Carlin, Executive Director
