The New Testament refers to Christians as “saints” 67 times, never referencing a special group since all Christians are saints – that is, holy and set apart for the Lord. However, Immaculate’s mother, Roselyne, is truly an extraordinary saint who exemplifies Christ’s commandment to love one another as He has loved us by the generosity and compassion she extends to those in need around her ( John 13:34-35). We are incredibly blessed to have her volunteering with Serving in Jesus’ Name as our Western Kenya Project Coordinator. In addition to her work with the ministry, Roselyne feeds 20 people each day – children, young men left on their own, and abandoned women. She works daily on her vegetable farm to supplement her small government pension and to provide food for her table. |
Caitlin Terry, our dear friend who is serving as a missionary with Hydromissions as a WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) engineer, arrived in Kenya in late February. After spending one night in the container house, she traveled with Immaculate to Western Kenya. Caitlin got to see our work firsthand while inspecting the rainwater catchment systems and latrines at several facilities. She met with our trustworthy contractor, Victor, giving him a good report on the soundness and durability of the structures, as well as providing a few tips on how to make them even better. The photos below are from Caitlin’s site visits – more about her visit in our March newsletter.
Other Activities in February
- Put the finishing touches on our 2021 projects. We will be starting our new water and latrine projects in March – our ambitious goal for 2022 is 10 five-stall latrines and 10 rainwater catchment systems.
- Provided funding for Kenny and Immaculate’s container house, which they moved into two weeks ago. It will serve as our “headquarters” in Kenya. Its 1600 ft2 includes a large storage area for items awaiting distribution. Everything inside the house, except the sectional, was provided by donors in the US. The outside needs a facelift, but Kenny and Immaculate are delighted to be in their own home, free from the burden of rent.
Many thanks to each of you who prays for our ministry, donates items, provides financial support, and gives time to help with the work of the ministry. We are grateful for all those who enable us to continue sowing seeds of life in 2022 (1 Corinthians 3:6).
Blessings,
Kathy Carlin, Executive Director
