In June, we packed and shipped a 40-foot container, destined for Kenya. Among the 85,000 pieces of clothing, pairs of shoes, books, housewares, school supplies, and toys, are treasures that have the power to transform lives (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The precious cargo includes thousands of Scripture cards, devotionals, prayer journals, Scripture pictures, along with over 5,000 Bibles. Our prayer is that the Word of God in this shipment will build up those who receive it (Acts 20:32) and become a joy and delight to their hearts (Jeremiah 15:16). We prayed for a rain-free day and a team of volunteers to pack our four storage units into the container on June 19. The Lord was gracious to us! It did not rain, but the sky was cloudy, lessening the effect of the 90-degree temperatures on the 25 volunteers who worked from 9 am to 1 pm. Berea and Mount Vernon Baptist Churches sent most of the crew, and master packers Bob and Kim Schultz came from PA to help. With Bob and Kyle Soderberg personally directing the placement of each item inside the container, not a cubic inch of space went unfilled. Kyle even got on a ladder placed on a pickup truck to climb into the container to stuff in a few more boxes at the end. |
Other Activities in June at Serving in Jesus’ Name
- Started discussions about our annual Appalachian outreach. The timing depends on how the region is faring given COVID.
- Preparing to turn the two containers into a permanent home for Immaculate and her family.
- Continuing distributions from the October container – hoping to resume in-person deliveries with “Praise the Lord” celebrations
We are thankful for all the wonderful people who are sharing in this ministry of love with us, and we are grateful for each of you who support Serving in Jesus’ Name with your prayers, contributions, donated articles, and help sorting, packing, and transporting. Our God is faithful!
Blessings,
Kathy Carlin, Executive Director
