We watch as the new latrines being built at the Ivugui Orphanage in Western Kenya impress us with humility – we are profoundly aware of the unbounded luxury in which we live, and we are grateful for the privilege of using a small portion of what the Lord has given us (James 1:17) to make others’ lives a bit less difficult. The current bathroom facilities, which accommodate 60 children at Ivugui, are in such a horrific state of disrepair surely none of us could imagine stepping a foot inside them. Therefore, we are excited to be able to provide the children and caretakers at this home and school sturdy, clean latrines. While we wish we could personally attend the celebration we will host at Ivugui in thanksgiving for the Lord’s provision of these facilities, we know our dear Immaculate, who does all things well, will convey our gratitude for what the Lord has given and our desire that the residents join us in praising Him for this expression of His love. Plans for our “annual” Appalachian outreach on November 2 are proceeding well. We will be co-hosting a 5-hour event in Tazewell, VA, with 5 other ministries. Along with serving lunch and having continuous live praise music, we will be providing blankets, Bibles, toys, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, hygiene kits, and cleaning supplies to those in need. Local pastors will be holding short services at the opening and closing of the event to share the Good News of God’s love and the salvation He offers those who put their faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:16 ), and teams will be available throughout to provide encouragement and prayer to those desiring support. Many thanks to to each of you who support us with prayer, funding, help packing, and the items we ship to remote places or deliver nearby. You are a blessing to us and to those we serve in Jesus’ name. Blessings, |
Activities at Serving in Jesus’ Name in September:
- The itinerary for our first mission’s trip to Kenya is set. Keylia and Ang, two young nurses from Appalachia, will be visiting two women’s rescue centers and many of “our” orphanages in Nairobi and along the Western border. They are eager to encourage the women and children and share about their journeys of faith.
- We are slowly filling our storage unit with donated items. The storage unit, once tightly stacked with boxes, will hold 42% of the container, so it’s going to be a long while before a ship carrying our container embarks for Kenya.
- By God’s grace, after getting creative and taking advantage of the Walmart Back-to-School sale to purchase a small mountain of composite books, we have 1150 journals towards our goal of 1300. We also have 500 devotionals of the 1300 needed.
